Day 14- Coin Estimation

Did you know that 70% of your life you actually need to estimate instead of calculate the correct answer?  That is more than 1/2 of the time.  Here is a great chance to practice this important skill.

For each one- Put your estimation and reasoning in the comment box below with a label.  Do better than I just guessed for your reasoning.  For example, " Pennies= ____ cents I know this because ...."  Try more than one!  Try the challenge!  On Monday we will reveal the answers and who is the closest for each grade span.

Grade K-1-

Grade 2-3-
What is the value of the roll of Nickels? Dimes?

Grade 4-5-

  3. About $10 because 4 quarters = $1 and there is about $5 on each side

About 90cents, because the line is about 40cents and the curve is about 50 cents

  4. I know that 40 quarters are in a quarter roll. 4 quarters equal one dollar. So 40 quarters divided by 4 equals $10.
