Day 12: Which One Doesn't Belong?

Day 12:  Which One Doesn't Belong?

K-2 Directions:  Look at the 4 shapes made with cubes below.  One of them is different from the others.  When you figure out which one doesn't fit in, tell someone you're home with which one it is.  Make sure you tell them why it doesn't belong.  Post your thoughts in the comments below.  (Shapes can be numbers 1-4 clockwise from the top left to make commenting easier)

K-2 Challenge:  After finding one shape that doesn't belong, try to find a different one that doesn't belong.  Tell someone you're home with the reason why it doesn't belong.  It should be a different reason than the first one!

3-5 Directions:  Look at pictures of money below.  They all have something in common, but you can also justify why one of them doesn't belong with the others.  When you figure out which one doesn't fit in, tell someone you're home with which one it is.  Make sure you tell them why it doesn't belong. Then, using a different reason, try to find a different money amount that doesn't belong.  Once you have, tell someone in your house the new reason why that image doesn't belong.  Post your thoughts in the comments below.

3-5 Challenge:  Come up with a reason why each of the 4 amounts of money doesn't belong in the group with the others!  Tell someone you're home with and post thoughts in the comments section below.

  1. Cecelia - The top right picture of the money problem doesn't fit because it has more than five coins. The bottom left picture doesn't fit because it is the only one that isn't worth 25 cents.

  3. The nickels don’t fit because tails is facing up instead of heads
The pennies don’t fit because they are a different color
The quarter doesn’t fit because there is only one of it
The dimes don’t fit because they don’t equal $0.25

  9. On the top picture shape #2 doesn't belong because it has 20 bricks and the other shapes have 30.
On the money pictures the dimes don't fit in because they equal 50 cents and the other pictures equal 25 or the pennies do not fit in because they are copper color and the other coins are silver

The top right rectangle is different because it has two layers. The other one that is different is the top left corner because it has light blue in it.
