Day 8- How Many Ways Can you Make a Triangle?

You will need virtual pattern blocks to do this activity.  You can either use a computer or download the free app to participate.

Your challenge is to use the pattern blocks to make a triangle with 1 block, 2 blocks, 3 blocks, 4 blocks, 5 blocks,.....  See if you can continue this pattern.

• Who can use the most pattern blocks to make a triangle?  
• Who can make the biggest triangle? 
• Who can make a triangle with exactly 10 blocks?
• Who can make a triangle using 3 different shapes?

Explore with the pattern blocks-
K-2

• What pictures/designs can you make with the shapes?
• Can you make a design that has symmetry?

• In the bottom left corner there are some outlines, see if you can fill them completely.

3-5

• Can you make a hexagon with the pattern blocks?  
• How many different ways can you make a hexagon?
• Can you make a design with rotational symmetry?
• Can you use the protractor to measure the angles?
