Directions: Today it's your turn to help make a "Which One Doesn't Belong?". Instead of having 4 options like normal, there are only 3 today. It's your job to add in a 4th one that doesn't belong OR makes one of the original three not belong and tell us why in the comments below. Your answers need to be an addition expression (K-2) or subtraction expression (3-5).

3-5:
Challenge: Once you come up with a 4th option that doesn't fit in, try to come up with a NEW one that makes the other three not fit in. See an example below:
#1 - If I replace the ? with the number 11, 8 doesn't fit in because it's the only even number.
If I do 20-12 it won’t fit because the subtrahend (I googled the word) is a 2 digit number.
ReplyDeleteThen 18-9 won’t fit because that is the only one that’s difference is not 8.
Nice job! Love the use of the word subtrahend and you finding one expression that made two not belong. Good work.

Can you tell us why 15-7 would or would not belong?
Delete3-5
ReplyDelete20-12
It belongs because two other expressions equal 8.
Nice job. So which expression wouldn't belong?
ReplyDeleteCecelia - For 3-5 if the mystery equation 78-70=8 the 18-9 wouldn't fit because it has a difference of 9 while all the other numbers have a difference of 8. Also 18-9 wouldn't fit because it is the only equation with an odd number.
ReplyDeleteI am in 5th grade and I did 12-4 because 16-4=8 and so doesn’t 16-8 so if I do 12-4 that equals 8 so then 18-9 doesn’t belong
