Day 21: Which One Doesn't Belong?
K-2 Directions: Look at the 4 cubes below. One of them is different from the others. When you figure out which one doesn't fit in, tell someone you're home with which one it is. Make sure you tell them why it doesn't belong. Post your thoughts in the comments below. (Shapes can be numbers 1-4 clockwise from the top left to make commenting easier)
K-2 Challenge: After finding one cube that doesn't belong, try to find a different one that doesn't belong. Tell someone you're home with the reason why it doesn't belong. It should be a different reason than the first one!
3-5 Directions: Look at the 4 letters below. One of them is different from the others. When you figure out which one doesn't fit in, tell someone you're home with which one it is. Make sure you tell them why it doesn't belong. Then, using a different reason, try to find a different letter that doesn't belong. Once you have, tell someone in your house the new reason why that letter doesn't belong. Post your thoughts in the comments below.
3-5 Challenge: Come up with a reason why each of the 4 letters doesn't belong in the group with the others! Tell someone you're home with and post thoughts in the comments section below.
Cecelia-U doesn't belong because it is the only letter that isn't in the word ant.
ReplyDeleteNice thinking Cecelia. Can you come up with any other 3 letter words that don't include a 4th?

ReplyDeleteA doesn’t belong because it isn’t in the word nut
U doesn’t belong because it isnt in the word ant
T doesn’t belong it is the 20th letter and that is the only one divisible by five
Nice job! Are there any other divisibility rules that apply to the other letters?

ReplyDeleteN doesn't belong because it is the only one that is not symmetrical
N doesn't belong because it is the only one that will not look the same if you put it up to a mirror
A doesn't belong because it is the only one that has a closed in shape
U doesn't belong because it is the only one that has a curve instead of sharp edges
N doesn't belong because it is the only one that can be made into another letter(z)
Good thinking Mackenzie. You're the first person to notice the curved vs. straight edges.
Deleteu doesnt belong because it is not in the words tan and ant.
ReplyDeleteGood observations! Do you know of any other 3 letter words that have the letter U but not the A, N or T?

Nice job locating the right angle!
DeleteA is different, because it has a hole.
ReplyDeleteU is different, because it has a curve.
N is different, because it could be a Z if you turn it over.
T is different, because if you put T in front of the mirror a certain way it will be an I.
T is different, because it only has two lines.
Nice! Could you use a geometric shape to describe the hole in the A?
DeleteU doesn't belong because it's curved.
ReplyDeleteU doesn't belong because it can be turned into a "C" when turned.
A is doesn't belong because its lines are slanted.
T doesn't belong because just saying the letter is a word itself.
N doesn't belong because it has parallel lines.
Nice job noticing the parallel lines! Could the N become another letter when you turn it?
DeleteN doesn’t belong because it could not even be a N! It could be a z
ReplyDeleteU doesn’t belong because it has no angles
T doesn’t belong because it’s the only letter with a right angle
